Pyrenees Multisport is a sports holiday company based in the foothills of the French Pyrenees. The centre is run by Ian and Julie Wright who live in the Pyrenees all year round and moved to the area in 2004. The 19th century farm house, converted specifically with the athlete in mind, is in the small village of Luscan and is the base for all activities.
Both Ian and Julie have been a part of cycling and triathlon since 1986 when Ian was a member of the Royal Navy Triathlon team and Cycling team gaining colours in both sports. From that point on both Ian and Julie have gone on to compete in multiple Ironman Triathlons and Ultramarathons around the world . The Hawaii World Chamiopnships for Julie and the Marathon des Sables for Ian are the highlights of their athletic acheivements so far and new races and challenges are planned for the future.
Ian has the BF5 French Triathlon coaching qualification and coaches the Triathlon camps as well as guiding the the rides. He has ridden 14 times across the Pyrenees while guiding the glorious Raid Pyrenean. Julie also guides the riding and assists with swim coaching at the lake and pool.
When you arrive at the Airport we will be there to meet you. We will transport you and your bike to our centre in Luscan. If you do not wish to bring your bike then we have a range of rental bikes that will be ready for you on your arrival. Our accommodation is specifically designed for the athlete in mind. From the Bike Barn for the security and maintenance of your bikes, the Wash Room for the cleaning and drying of your clothes, storage of nutrition and other gear, the Lounge for the relaxation after a hard day of activiites, the Dining room for Breakfast and superb evening meal to the Rooms that are comfortable and will have you fully recovered for the following day. There is also a guest kitchen so you can make those extra snacks for lunch or even full self catering if you so wish.
Our meals are all home cooked using fresh ingredients. Julie is well known for her cooking and she takes pride in the three course evening meal she provides. She takes an “unprocessed” approach to the ingredients and trys to use as much of the home grown food she can or at least sourced locally from markets here in the Barousse Valley. We also cater very well for vegitarians but let is know well in advance.
There are a number of Bedrooms situated on the 1st and 2nd floors of the centre. Ranging from double rooms with en-suite, twin rooms with en-suite and rooms with three or four beds with en-suite. Just in case you have any energy left, there is a Baby Foot table (table football) on the 2nd floor with comfy seating so you can relax and have a game or two.
The Lounge is a place you can sit and just chill out. Comfortable couches, large screen Sky TV and plenty of books allows you to completely relax after a hard day on the bike or walking in the mountains. In the winter there is a roaring wood burner to accompany your hot chocolate while watching re-runs of the Tour de France.
The Dining room is the hub of all activity and is where your buffet breakfast will be served from 08:00 onwards. We provide cereals, bread (toast), jams, nutella, yoghurts, tea, coffee, juice and eggs (steamer).
Evening meals are served from 19:30 and consist of three courses, normally, soups, salads for starters. A wholesome home cooked extravaganza for your main course and a beautiful, tasty desert. Wine is also included with the meal.
The Kitchenette is located on the 1st floor and has all what you need for a self catered holiday. Fridge, oven, hob and microwave allows you to prepare snacks for lunch or midnight feasts. We provide tea, coffee and milk so you can have hot drinks when ever you like. There is also comfy seating so you can relax and read away from the TV lounge.
The Wash Room is located outside. Here you can store your nutrition and water bottles as well as you cycling and running gear. For a small charge you have use of the washing machines and tumble driers so you can keep your sports kit clean and dry. Saves on bringing too much with you on the airplane.
The Terrace is accessed via the dining room. We try and eat out on the terrace as much as possible and it is a perfect place to relax on the sun loungers or take a dip in the Endless Pool. You can also relax in the garden and take in the views of the surrounding mountains. This is your holiday just as much as a riding or training week.
The Bike Barn is what we know as the workshop. Situated in one of our barns attached to the house is the spacious workshop which houses the rental bikes, our own bikes and of course your bikes when you stay with us. There is a complete workshop where we can aid you in building your bikes up from the journey or fix any problems you might encounter on the rides as we do not want a broken bike ruining anyone’s holiday. There is a qualified bike mechanic on hand at all times so if you want someone else to do the messy work we will be happy to oblige. We hold a small range of spares and can source other items locally if needs be.
We were always worried about what size pool we were going to need for our centre in the Pyrenees. As swimmers we always look for 25m pools to do our training in but there was no way we could put in a full size pool and manage it. So we decided on the Endless Pool which combines the ability to train hard if you wish with the relaxation of a small pool located on our terrace next to the house.
The pool works by drawing the water from the pool through a large fan and pushing it out again to allow the swimmer to swim against the current. Basically a treadmill for swimmers
We were lucky enough that Endless Pools gave us a slightly wider pool and the more powerful motor to allow the more advanced swimmers a great workout. We have also installed underwater mirrors and an underwater camera to allow stroke technique to be analysed if you so wish.
