Ride the roads and experience the atmosphere of the 2020 Tour De France

Tour De France Holiday Package

Our 2020 Tour de France special will run from Friday 3rd  to Saturday 11th July.  This is a friendly low key tour based from our centre in the heart of the French Pyrenees and with two nights in hotels to get close to the Tour action.  From picking up from Toulouse airport, home cooked 3 course meals and very comfortable accommodation, we will look after you throughout.

This will be our 16th Tour de France in the Pyrenees, so we know what goes on and we will get to watch 2 of the stages, both in the mountains, the Port de Balés very close to our centre and the Marie Blanque, a little further away.  Lots of riding if you want to or treat it as a relaxing holiday and just ride to the viewing points along the way.

Arrival – Friday 3rd July [Airport Hotel]

The 2020 Tour de France is a week earlier than usual.  So we can see both of the Pyrenean mountain stages we propose to you to fly in on the Friday evening into Toulouse.  It is a short walk (or taxi ride) to a local friendly airport hotel.  This is part of the holiday package so no extra cost for the accommodation or breakfast.  We will pick you up early on the Saturday morning.  You can always take a trip into Toulouse for the evening, it is such a beautiful city.

Day 1 – Saturday 4h July [Transfer from Toulouse]

Transfers from Toulouse back to our base in Luscan, in the heart of the Pyrenees. This will be an early pick up from the hotel so we have plenty of time to build up your bikes or set up your rental before heading off for the first of the Tour de France stages.

Stage 8 – Cazères-sur-Garonne > Loudenvielle

We will ride only 10 Km before we are at the base of the penultimate climb of the stage, the Port de Balés.  We will ride to a designated viewing point and set up for the promotional caravan to wind its way pass and then the anticipation of the professional riders and their entourage.  It is all very exciting.  After the “Fin de Course” vehicle goes though we will head back down the mountain to Luscan.  We will have another chance in the week to ride this climb all the way over the top.

We will have our evening briefing on the terrace before a fantastic home cooked evening meal with plenty of wine and chatter.

Day 2 – Col de Marie Blanque (Stage 9 Pau > Laruns)

It is an early rise this morning as we head over to the next valley in the minibuses.  The Col de Marie Blanque is the final climb of the stage so we will have plenty of time to ride to the top and set up on the steepest section of the pass.  This climb is renown for it’s tormenting gradient, never letting up until the top.  We will see the grimace on the professionals faces, knowing you have already ridden the same roads.

After the end of stage car passes us we will head back down and past the minibuses to our over night stay in a beautiful little village directly on the square when you can enjoy a drink on the terrace.

Day 3 – Col d’Aubisque

After a leisurely breakfast we will ride up to the famous HC climb of the Col d’Aubisque.  This is a 16Km ride though very diverse scenery with a great café stop on the summit.  Beautiful scenery to take in before the stunning descent and the small rise up to the Col de Soulor.  We then take a route down the Soulor and through the town of Argelés Gazost where we will have a coffee break before heading onto the converted railway line (bike path) to our hotel for the evening.

Day 4 – Col du Tourmalet

This is a big one and the climb that every cyclists makes the pilgrimage to the Pyrenees to do.  It is a good warm up to the base in Luz St Saveur where we will have a quick cup of coffee.  you have plenty of time to get to the summit of the Giant where the famous cyclist statue stands.  We will descend to Payolle for lunch and then onto the Col d’Aspin, a shorter but beautiful climb.  We will then ride through the rolling countryside back to our base in Luscan.

Remember on these point to point rides we will never be far away from support vehicle so if you feel you need a rest or just some moral support then we will be there for you.

Day 5 – St Bertand de Comminges (Rest Day)

We have had a few big days so far, so after a very leisurely breakfast we will take a shorter loop taking in the famous village and cathedral of St Bertrand de Comminges.  A nice lunch in the square and then you will have all afternoon to lounge around by the pool or if you want to ride some more we can help you will a route.

Day 6 – Col de Menté Loop

The Col de Menté has been a part of the Tour de France since the beginning.  It was in Stage 8 earlier in the week and we will see how the pro riders felt as we climb the same way.  But we will get to stop at the summit café for lunch before descending back down tot he valley and home.  There are various options along the way to extend your ride if you wish as per most days.

Day 7 – Col de Portilon

Off to Spain today but of course we will not be going direct.  Up the valley to the ski town of Bagnére de Luchon for coffee and then over the Col de Portilon which is another favourite of the Tour de France (but not this year).  The summit if the frontier of France and Spain and we will descend into the little border town of Bossost for some Tapas.

Once we return back to base it is time to pack up the bikes and get ready for our final meal out in a local restaurant.  It is early transfers tomorrow morning back to Toulouse airport.

Day 8 – Airport Transfers

We will have an early breakfast before heading back to Toulouse.  We will get you there for the morning flights.
