DISCOVER ANDORRA
Starting from our converted 18th century farm house cycling centre in the heart of the French Pyrenees. We will ride up and over the border into Spain where we will spend a night in the adventure sport town of Sort (always worth a dip in the river). We will then head into Andorra, the tiny mountain principality hidden in the high Pyrenees. Spending three nights in a very comfortable ski resort hotel where you can get spa and massage or just play some ten pin bowling and discovering the epic climbs of what Andorra offers including the highest pass in the whole of the Pyrenees. We ride back into France for one more night before heading back to our start point in Luscan and completing the circuit of three countries by bike.

After a relaxing breakfast we will head to Spain which is not too far up the road. The first climb of the day is the hidden gem of the Guardader d’Arres which brings you down into the Ski town of Vielha for a well earned coffee. Then it is the start of the Port de la Bonaigua which is one of the higher passes of the Pyrenees at 2,072m. It is then an all out descent of 50km to the finish hotel in the adventure sport town of Sort with its many bars and cafés but don’t forget a dip in the rapids of the river to cool down those muscles.

An alfresco coffee at the top from Café Chez Julie before a long descent to the border of Andorra. Andorra is small and busy but they love cyclists so the roads are designed with that in mind and you will follow the route through the town and onto the road to La Massana, the main ski resorts of the Principality. The climb to the hotel is steady and after checking into this 4* resort you will be able to experience the Spa or maybe even the Bar.

Day 4 – [Wednesday] Andorra Loop
Enjoy the extensive buffet breakfast that the hotel provides. We will head downhill to start the first of the climbs today. the Collada de Beixalis is a lovely steady climb with spectacular views but it is not the highest today and we will descend down to the main valley to ride up a little way to the start of the Coll d’Ordino passing tobacco plantations on the hairpins and onto very popular walking routes. The summit comes up quickly and the decent is smooth and flowing. Now you have the option of stopping at the hotel or a bonus climb to the ski station of Esquire d’Arinsal. It is out and back so you can decide.

Day 5 – [Thursday] Andorra Loop
Another great breakfast and take the opportunity to fuel up as we will head downhill for quite some time before we hit the first climb up to the ski station of La Rabassa with its 29 hairpins this very much the pinnacle of Pyrenean climbing. The second climb of the Coll de l Gallina is equally impressive with 31 hairpins but slightly shorter although deemed the hardest climb in the Principality so be warned. It is then the journey back to the hotel which you will know and before you know it is relaxing in the Spa.

We revisit the Coll d’Ordino again but from this side allowing you to enjoy the descent that you climbed earlier in the week. Then it is the monster, the highest paved pass in the Pyrenees, the Port d’Envalira as 2,408m, it is not uncommon to still see snow at the top. Wrap up warm as the next 60km is all downhill back into France to the river town of Tarascon.

Descending down to the small town of Massat is a lot of fun and this extends down the valley so you will feel the speed all the way to lunch in St Girons. It is then just over half way back to base following a quieter rolling route.
